The problem of Free Will is thorny, but it can’t left non-debated.
In Newtonian Physics worldview there is no room for Free Will, everything is predetermined.
I read a paper of Erwin Schrodinger (one of the greatest physicists of XX century) “Indeterminism and free will” (published in 1936). Quantum Mechanics does not resolve the problem of Free Will.
I rephrase Schrodinger, let’s imagine that you attend a formal dinner with extremely boring and important people. Due to a quantum fluctuation within a neuron, it’s triggered and causes a chain reaction in the brain. Consequently, you jump on the table and start a weird dance breaking the glasses and dishes. Do you exercise your free will? The answer is obviously NO. Your behavior is caused by a chance, the free will is an illusion in the given context.
Unlike Newtonian Physics, Quantum mechanics makes the world unpredictable and non-predetestinated. But there is no room for Free Will in the Quantum worldview.
My opinion: each physical model is an approximation of reality. The reality is beyond our understanding. The gap between reality and our most sophisticated physical models is infinite. In this gap Free Will is located.
According to Godel’s incompleteness theorem there are infinite mathematical statements which we can’t in virtue to prove or to disprove, e.g. Continuum Hypothesis won’t ever be proved or disproved, this hypothesis is undecided.
Thus, there is Truth which we won’t reach.
Math is the language of physics, therefore we can’t comprehend reality by means of physics (because the language of physics is imperfect).
